5/12/2023 0 Comments Oh No! Not Again! by Mac BarnettMike (guitar): “ Apparently we first jammed this out on 13th September 2021, it was originally over 6 mins long and a lot more cluttered so we just kept getting rid of bits until it felt minimal but still “a song”. I love how Gaz and I play the same thing throughout most of the song to provide the anchor, but the guitar is all over the shop, which really elevates the track.“ Mike (synth): “ I wanted to create a synth sound that mimicked bagpipes in terms of pitch modulation and I thought that would be a ridiculous thing to put with UK Garage drums. Gareth (drums): “ I’d been listening to a lot of UK Garage when we started jamming that one out so I was trying to do an Artful Dodger rip off on the drums.“ I had this looping room theme in my head when writing the lyrics for this song, accentuated by Mike’s unsettling synth drone.“ The band were kind enough for me to have creative control for the video. Everything feels lucid, weird, familiar and sometimes nightmarish. Dan (vocals): “ I thought your hand was a cup of water” is about that moment before you fall asleep.

Not only that - it breaks virtually every rule of modern fiction-writing and gets away with it. In spite of all the comparisons and accusations, Life of Pi struck me as a startlingly original work, not easily slotted into any known category. And then there's the controversy over Martel allegedly "borrowing" the storyline from Max and the Cats by Brazilian writer Moacyr Scliar. Various critics have made comparisons to other works - The Jungle Book meets Lord of the Flies, for example (or even Timothy Findley 's Not Wanted on the Voyage). Yann Martel recently captured the coveted Man Booker Prize for his zoo parable Life of Pi, but even prior to that great victory his strange little book was generating a lot of buzz. 5/11/2023 0 Comments My killer vacation book reviewNew York Times Bestselling author Tessa Bailey can solve all problems except for her own, so she focuses those efforts on stubborn, fictional blue collar men and loyal, lovable heroines. GoTSM, co-written by Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link and Robin Wasserman, is the third novella collection in The Shadowhunter Chronicles and was published in June 2019. It left me feeling as if something was missing that I somehow looked past. It wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t as complete as some of Cassie’s other novella collections. Ghosts of the Shadow Market is the first Cassandra Clare book since Clockwork Angel that was kind of … unsatisfying. I’m just going to say right out of the gate that I’m conflicted about this one. “Life was full of broken hearts and missed chances.” Jem Carstairs, “The Land i Lost” A deep dive into the novella collection by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Line and Robin Wasserman 5/11/2023 0 Comments Review disappearing earthWe are transported to vistas of rugged beauty–densely wooded forests, open expanses of tundra, soaring volcanoes, and the glassy seas that border Japan and Alaska–and into a region as complex as it is alluring, where social and ethnic tensions have long simmered, and where outsiders are often the first to be accused. Taking us through a year in Kamchatka, Disappearing Earth enters with astonishing emotional acuity the worlds of a cast of richly drawn characters, all connected by the crime: a witness, a neighbor, a detective, a mother. Echoes of the disappearance reverberate across a tightly woven community, with the fear and loss felt most deeply among its women. In the ensuing weeks, then months, the police investigation turns up nothing. One August afternoon, on the shoreline of the Kamchatka peninsula at the northeastern edge of Russia, two girls–sisters, eight and eleven–go missing. Spellbinding, moving–evoking a fascinating region on the other side of the world–this suspenseful and haunting story announces the debut of a profoundly gifted writer. Katie Lightfoot has had a bad breakup with her fiancé, and needs a big change. If you like cozy mysteries with food, this is the series for you. Off course, I have to try the recipes in the back as well. I am looking forward to starting the next one in this series. Once Katie realizes that her Aunt Lucy's "book" club ladies each have unique personalities and powers of their own, she begins to seek their help and advice. Throw in a love triangle with the local reporter, Steve and fireman, Declan to add just another dimension to the story. When Katie's uncle is accused of murder she knows he had nothing to do with it and is out to prove iteven while putting herself in danger. Now it all sounds rather cliche but when they find the City's nasty Queenbee strangled in her car the story takes off. Shortly after arriving she inherits a little dog she names The Magnificent Mungo and finds out that she is a witch with a lot to learn. Katie Lightfoot has left Ohio after a broken engagement and moved to Savannah to help her Aunt Lucy and Uncle Ben open a bakery called the "Honeybee" after her cat, in the Historic Downtown District. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was cute. This was a new author and cozy mystery series for me. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Shirley by Charlotte BrontëShirley Keelder, young, beautiful, spirited and rich, comes to the neighborhood and she and Caroline soon become good friends. Caroline is left to despair in silence when he is struggling to save his mill. He is loved by his cousin Caroline and to some extent does return her affection but is too practical to indulge into a marriage with her due to his financial situation. Robert Moore, a mill-owner in Yorkshire, trying to install new machines in his mill faces violent oppositions from the worker but does not relent in his endeavors. The story starts with the famous and accurate caricature of curates in the very first chapter followed by the state of business in the England of 1811-12 subjected to the ill effects of an ongoing war. Wordsworth Classics (Apr 1998),Penguin Books (), and Others Still, “Shirley” does make a worthy read. The book undoubtedly lacks the integrity of structure and the effects of Charlotte’s own mental agonies over the loss of her brother and sisters while writing this book is inevitably detectable. “Shirley”, the second published novel by Charlotte Bronte, was released in 1949 amongst high anticipations by readers and critics after super success of “Jane Eyre” and like other works by Charlotte has been overshadowed by the artistic superiority and popularity of “Jane Eyre”. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Inès de la fressange booksThe authors take readers inside fifteen Parisian apartments-including their own-that demonstrate how to imbue a home with a sense of well-being through a mix of vintage and contemporary styles.
